Google Image Search

What is a Google Image Search?  You use it to look for images instead of using the regular search tool that looks for websites.

How is it different?  The Google image bot doesn’t search the web as often as the regular google bot, so while the regular bot probably visits your website at least once a week, the Google image bot may take as much as six months to notice your new picture.  It’s important to optimize your images as soon as you post them so the Google image bot has more time to find them.

How do I optimize my images?

  1. Alt tags should describe the content.  Google bots can’t see the image, so this is your chance to tell them what the picture is.
  2. The filename explains the image.  Don’t use an unnamed image file like 29388.jpg.
  3. Surrounding text helps both the search engine and the audience to know what they are seeing.
  4. The overall page theme should be relevant to the picture.

Why should I optimize images?  If someone wants a picture of your listing at 123 Main Street, they could use the Google Image Search to look for it.  They would find your optimized image.  From there, they can click on the link to your website for more information and to set an appointment!
