Internet vs Newspaper

Where buyers found the home they purchased

This graph from the National Association of Realtors clearly shows the importance of having an Internet presence to promote both yourself and your listings.  In 1997, 8% of home buyers found their home in the newspaper and 2% on the Internet, but in 2008, only 2% of buyers found their home in the newspaper and 37% found their home online.

An article in Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate then takes an excerpt from Seth Godin’s Blog.  He predicts that by 2012 there will be no significant print newspapers and 90% of your sales will come from digital promotion or word-of-mouth.

What are you doing to adjust your marketing efforts?  If you haven’t already focused on marketing online, soon you will be forced to.  Instead of putting your marketing budget toward print newspaper ads that will be thrown away in a day or two, or worse, not read at all, why don’t you invest in your website which with some updates will last for years?
